16 Weeks and All's Well

After not posting anything about my pregnancy for the first few months, I'm at it again! The boys and I traveled the hour-long journey yesterday for my sweet little avocado-sized baby's 16-week appointment. It was short and sweet and all is well, but the best part was watching my kids bond for the first time. :)

Nathan was SO thrilled when I told him he would get to hear the baby's heartbeat after preschool. So excited, in fact, that when we arrived to pick him up, the whole class knew where he was going and what he was going to do! Once we arrived in Texarkana and endured the waiting room shuffle, Doc walked in. Nathan loves this doctor - especially the big bowl of suckers in his office! When it was time to take a listen, Nathan's assistance was requested. A huge grin spread across Nathan's face when he was handed the machine and asked to push the blue button while the wand found it's place on my tummy. When the quick beats started pouring out of the speaker, the love grew in Nathan's eyes. "I hear it! It's so loud!" he kept telling everyone. My only regret is the lack of a camera! When Doc asked if it sounded like a boy or a girl, Nathan replied, "I'm going to have a baby sister." From then on out, it was "she, she, she" from Doc. :) Although we won't know until four more weeks (read: absolutely forever), Nathan is pretty convinced a baby girl is on her way. October 21 will be our big anatomy scan and it can't get here soon enough - mark your calendars, folks!

As for the appointment stats, Doc said my growing tummy felt like it was supposed to. I still don't think I'm showing as much as I should be, but I imagine the years of medical school he has on me proves him right. The heartbeat was a mid-line 150 beats per minute, just where it's been for the past few appointments. According to the Old Wives, this is a girl heartbeat. They (whomever "they" may be) say anything above 140 is a girl and anything below 140 is a boy. However, I do remember Nathan staying steady around 145, so who knows. I like to tell people I think it's a boy just to be on the other side of the fence. What do YOU think?

Oh well, this next month will hopefully fly right by. And when I find out who is growing in there, you will be the first to know. Happy Friday! I hope you all have a fantastic weekend.
