Apple of My Eye

Since this is the last day my precious little baby is the size of an apple, I thought I'd better go ahead and post so I could use such a catchy title! :) So Baby Bauer and I are officially 15 weeks and 6 days pregnant, a few weeks into the second trimester. He or she weighs about 2.5 ounces and is 4 inches long. This little apple has come a long way from the sesame seed he or she was a mere 10 weeks ago! It's so amazing how quickly babies grow in the womb and comparing them to different fruits, veggies, and grains makes it that much better.

Since I haven't written a baby update since I told you about the dreaded, scary subchorionic hemorrhage, I thought it was time. My last appointment was at 12 weeks. That day I only got to hear the sweet music of baby's heartbeat - no ultrasound (boo), so I have no pictures to share. However, you'll be happy to know that the bleeding has subsided (fingers crossed) and my OB said he was pretty sure baby would be just fine. However, this good news put me back on normal patient status, complete with monthly appointments. Although I like to be considered "normal," this four-week stretch is for the birds! Next Thursday is my 16-week appointment so I've almost made it...

*Almost* is the key word there. :) After a couple weeks into my second trimester, I started feeling fantastic - my nausea had disappeared, my annoying symptoms were gone, and my tummy even seemed to deflate a little. After my miscarriage in March, all I wanted from this pregnancy was to actually feel pregnant and when that began to go away, I began to freak out. When I finally told this to my mom, she called a friend who is a nurse at the local health clinic. She agreed to let me pop in this Monday afternoon for a quick check, and of course, those sweet thumps filled the room. Yes at 153 beats per minute, Baby Bauer's heart was working just fine and my uterus was measuring right. I think it's safe to say after hearing that amazing sound again, I have convinced myself that I am in this for the long haul.

I continue to pray for another healthy child every single day, but I think I am finally starting to accept the fact that this pregnancy is going to end in a baby. Let the fun begin! Happy Friday, y'all.
