Happy Teeth

Yesterday was a pretty big milestone in the life of our little Nathan. The three-year-old made his inaugural trip to the dentist's chair. After talking it up for a couple of weeks, I was still completely astonished by how great he did! Walking into the office, he was a little apprehensive, but once he caught sight of the toys in the waiting room, he was good. When the hygienist called his name and brought him back, he happily followed. She asked him to lie down on the small blue table. *I clinched my teeth, knowing this would set him off.* He lied down perfectly. She asked him to scoot up a little. He complied. She showed him how the polisher worked. *Again, I froze thinking this would freak him out.* He didn't say a word, except for "AHHHH" when she was ready to work. She polished all 20 of his pearly whites - praising Nathan the whole way! He so relaxed that I think the only thing that bothered him was the light, but he didn't say a word, just covered his eyes with his little hand:

Isn't that absolutely incredible!? He's just lying there without a care in the world! I just knew the first trip to the dentist would be horrifying, but Nathan proved me wrong. After the dentist came over, took a quick peek, painted on some fluoride, and praised him even more, he hopped off of the table and collected his loot. The kid came home with a new big boy toothbrush (of which he is SUPER proud), Spongebob toothpaste, two stickers, and a squirt gun. He came out of the office beaming and proclaiming, "It didn't even hurt!!!" We then enjoyed his favorite fast food for lunch, Chik-Fil-A, and came home to bake brownies as a special treat. I figured that was a pretty good way to reward happy, shiny teeth. Don't you?? I hope you're all as proud of Nathan as I am. I just hope it goes as well during his second trip in about six months. :)
