Hello World!

I'm Owen. :)

I know you haven't heard from me in a few days, but this time I have a good reason. I was in the hospital giving birth to my beautiful baby boy! We are still a bit busy getting settled, but I thought I would steal a quiet moment to share Owen's birthday story.

Owen Charles Bauer came into this world with healthy lungs and proud parents at 11:46 pm Thursday, March 10. He may have been a few days late, but I am so glad he finally made it. Weighing in at a bit more than Nathan did, this 9-pound, 3-ounce bundle of joy is the perfect addition to our little family. As you can imagine, delivery of this big guy was tough - and a drug-free birth due to epidural failure didn't help. However, with only two hours of labor and one giant push, it was over as soon as it started!

Let's back up a bit now and I'll explain how this whole story begins. Even though Owen showed up fashionably late, it was not his personal decision. Jonathan and I decided to take a trip to L&D Thursday afternoon because I wasn't feeling as much movement as I had been. Thank goodness everything was fine and that baby started squirming the second the monitors were hooked up. Our visit did not end there, however. When the on-call doctor noticed high blood pressure and regular contractions (of which I was unaware), he decided to induce right away. The pitocin drip started at 9:30, contractions came fast and strong, and the rest is history:

Owen and I were given clean bills of health Saturday morning and made it to Nashville as a family of four that afternoon. Our hearts are full and happy now that we are finally together and Nathan is a wonderful big brother. When he first laid eyes on his brother, "What a CUTE baby!" was the first thing that came to mind. :) Even though Owen can't play tag yet, Nathan seems content with giggling at him and tickling him every chance he gets.

I know I'll be sharing more tales of our first days with Owen, but for now I think it's time to steal a snuggle. It's smart to let a sleeping baby lie, but no one ever said anything about showering a sleeping baby with kisses. Thanks to everyone who has sent messages of congratulations and well wishes. Your thoughts and prayers mean so much to us and we welcome any and all visitors who want to come see him. I'll even let you have a snuggle or two.
