Four Years Ago

Four years ago today, my lunch was interrupted by a surprise hospital visit to meet my first baby, almost four weeks early. Four years ago today, I watched life begin, in all of its five-pound glory. Four years ago today, I learned how to love.

In celebrating the birth of the Amazing Nathan, I'm getting a bit nostalgic (hence the picture). I've been looking through pictures from four Julys ago, and tearing up over my little squish-nosed baby boy. I cannot believe it's been four whole years; however, I feel like I've known Nathan my entire life. He is my best friend, my confidante, and my second banana (although that role is known to reverse). Every day I am blown away by the kind of person he is becoming. On top of that, I'm also celebrating my own anniversary. Not only did he greet the unsuspecting world, but he granted me my biggest role yet. I'm so humbled to have the title of mama to this special little boy. Nathan is destined for amazing things, and I'm happy to hold his hand along the way.

To my Nathan, thank you for giving me more joy in my life than I ever thought possible. Thank you for helping me grow as a person and as a friend. Thank you for showing me how to love and how to be loved absolutely and unconditionally. Happy Birthday, Nafey. I love you.
